Embrace mistakes. It means you learn.

This week, one of our customers told us a story about how Plant an App impacted them, after having a retrospective of multiple scrum teams. And so we decided to share the learnings with you.

Every team has their own sprints, but every few months we get together and align our strategy and findings.

This time we learned that after the previous retro, both teams took a different direction; not huge, but enough to end up with pieces of software that are not fully integrated.

Now, this is not new. When I used to work for a larger company some time ago, there were several options to deal with this:

Step back, create a plan of attack, build better architecture and try again. This would be the best option for quality, but it would set us back months.
Denial: the manager got the bonus for delivering the project on time and we all got burnt later for issues that happened down the line.
We call it technical debt. This has pretty much the same result as the previous one but at least it is out in the open.
There are many opinions about Agile Scrum, but what I really like is the transparency. We all knew immediately where the issue was and what needed to be done in order to be fixed. More importantly, we were confident that we were able to do so without delay. 

Plant an App does a lot of the heavy lifting and because of the polished UI, we were able to accelerate more people. The result: the speed of development remained high and we got the quality back on track.
Moral of the story, on a daily basis we all make mistakes. What is Important is not only how we deal with them but what we learn from them.
